Digital Engine Monitoring Systems and Mobile Phones.
Information from Eurocopter states that Mobile phones (either receiving or sending calls) may effect the Digital Engine Monitoring System (DECU),now being fitted to Eurocopter products. Although not in the flight manual, The factory recommends that mobile phones but turned off while operating the N3 Dauphin. (This is from the French Eurocopter Tech. Rep. in Sydney.) He stated that the DECU may be affected, but would not go so far as to say that the engines performance would be affected. (Although when asked,he would not deny this either!!) The DECU system is similar to the FADEC and other systems in that the starting and operating parameters are computer controlled and monitored. I have heard of an uncommanded shut down of a helicoper engine in flight that was attributed to a mobile phone but can not find any data on it. It may have been in the States. Does any one know anything further on this topic? Thanks!

I believe there was a discussion about the interference from mobile phones on the Rumors+News forum. They didnt say anything about the engine management being effected but I am also assuming that the computers for that are located farther from the cabin in F/W. They did say that the mobiles could cause interference with the radios reception.
