Post Anyone going to Helitech: Duxford 25 - 28 September?

The Helitech organisers have issued the following joining instructions for those flying in:
Duxford Airfield will remain PPR for the period of the exhibition. PPR can be obtained by telephoning Duxford Flight Information Service on +44 (0) 1223 833 376. A 'Special Event' AIC will be published in due course.
Airfield Information can be found in the UK AIP and by visiting the IWM website at: http://www.iwm.org.uk/duxford/airfield.

In addition to any Custom & Immigration requirements, please note the following:

1. Call Duxford Information on 122.075 at least 5 minutes out (prior to ETA) and state you are involved with Helitech 2001.

2. If you approach from the South or East, avoid entering controlled airspace without a clearance, even if VFR. Being in communication with London Information does not mean you have clearance through controlled airspace. Stansted Airport is only 13 miles to the south of Duxford, and due to increasing IFR traffic it is becoming more difficult for Stansted controllers to permit GA traffic to transit its airspace. Do not enter into their airspace unless a positive clearance is received.

Pilots are requested to pay particular attention to navigation and clearance especially in the vicinity of London Stansted airport and its associated controlled airspace.

The following 3 inbound routes avoid infringements of controlled Airspace around Stansted:

(a) Inbounds from the South to pass West of Stansted - Route LAM VOR - BKY VOR - BKY VOR - Duxford

(b) Inbounds from the South to pass East of Stansted - Route Chelmsford VRP - Braintree VRP - Haverhill VRP - Duxford

Note: Beware of Weathersfield Gliding Site and levels of nearby Controlled Airspace.

(c) Inbounds from the East - Route CLN VOR - Haverhill VRP - Duxford

Departure routes are the reverse of the above. Should you need an IFR clearance Duxford Information can obtain it, providing an IFR flight plan has been filed, which Duxford ATSU can do.

3. Duxford is very noise sensitive, please avoid flying over local villages (in particular Duxford, Thriplow and Whittlesford) museum buildings and crowd lines. Aircraft often operate in the overhead, hence no Deadside or overhead joins. Pilots are to position themselves for a Downwind or Straight-in join (see 'Special Events' AIC)

4. Due to the proximity of the grass and asphalt runway, they are treated as one structure. I.e. if you call 'finals' for the asphalt runway and an aircraft is completing its landing run on the grass runway you will be told 'the runway is occupied'. Simultaneous operations are considered dangerous and are not allowed.

5. Parking will be south of the main runway and a bus service will be provided to transport you to and from the exhibition area. Departing, aircraft must call for start up and taxy from the visitor park on the grass, for holding at the asphalt runway. All pilots and crew must check into the control cabin after being dropped off at the exhibition site, and then check out before returning to you aircraft.

6. 100 LL and Jet A1 fuel will be available during the airfield operating hours. Should you have any unusual requests or queries regarding refuelling operations then please contact Propshop, Duxford Airfield's on site fuel provider on +44 (0) 1223 835313. Propshop can only accept Visa or Cash payments for fuel, as account facilities take to long to process.

I assume quite a few Rotorheads will be visiting, either for work or pleasure - would it be a good idea to arrange to meet?
Or would loss of anonymity be too high a price to pay?

I'm planning to be there on the 25th, hopefully flying in with a CPL(H) mate.

How about a bash, people ? Unfortunately predominantly non-alcoholic so not quite a REAL bash.

And, if everyone from here going gets a PPRuNe badge no ID problems either !!

M W Helicopters, the Gazelle specialists, will have a number on display.
They should be easy to find - and are well worth a look.

I suggest we meet at the Gazelles at 12 noon on Tuesday 25th September.

May God Bless those poor souls..........And heap eternal Damnation on those responsible!!
