Post Open Letter to Rotorheads Forum

Obviously many of you have seen the slanging match that has developed between myself and the Pprune Administrators. I am not going to get into the wheres and whys about it because that has been said.

I wanted to make an open apology to those in this forum for what has eventuated. Most of you are professionals in the helo industry and this sort of bickering doesnt do much to endear either sides.

For the record Yes I did have some heated correspondence back some time ago, actually a few years ago to be exact, with the Compuserve forum, NOT Av Week itself, as alleged in the Pprune admin posting. For those that want to know the full background of it drop me an email and I am happy to elaborate. However I dont think it is worth doing so as that was then, this is now.

I try to be a professional in my field now, publishing a quality trade magazine that tries to set the standard, not follow others. The team I have put together have that same focus. I leave a lot of the correspondence to my editor as he is a lot more laid back than myself, and takes any insults or negative comments in his stride, whereas I shoot from the hip, not as bad as I used to be, but still a little gung ho at times.

Anway sorry for my part in dragging this forum into the gutter but in my opinion the pprune admin people had no right to drag up the past, albeit many years ago, just to prove their point. Time changes people and actions. As I said in my other post to those that know me you know I try to the best of my abilities to promote the helicopter industry and those that work in it (with a few exceptions). To those that dont then unfortunately you have to make up your mind about me based on the postings made here in this forum. Whatever your choices, they are your choices and I wont try to influence or change them.

I know some of you personally, I know some of you by name only, and vice versa. Some of you think I am a prick, so be it, Hey many times I deserve it.

For the record also there has never been any intention to use this forum as an advertising medium for the magazine, nor ask for the admin people to promote it. I have always posted under my magazine name as I am proud of the publication. If people ask about the magazine then I am going to tell them, heck I would be crazy not to. If the forum people had problems before re my posts then someone should have told me, NO ONE DID.

This latest incident is probably partly my fault. The first posting by a member here asked about the calendar, I replied saying we were doing a web site and would advise when it was done. To me that is no problem as I was answering someones post.

The second one was where I stepped across that line. I posted the website url for the calendar and encouraged everyone to go and have a look. Signed, sealed and delivered, I stepped over the line and admited that in my other message. If my memory is correct I dont think in any of my other postings in this forum I have come out and blatantly said to everyone to go and check the website. If I had I would have been told.

I am not going to get into the issue of the advertising on the site. Where I spend my ad dollars is my decision, not the admin people of this forum. If they were so adamant I should spend them with this forum, then send me a proposal, the same as I do with those I want to get to advertise in my magazine.

Yes the cost may only be the same as a scan for the mag, but that has nothing to do with what I do with my ad dollars. I could turn around and say that what they spend on server space could be spent on an ad in Pacific Rotors to promote the web site??, but I havent. However, enough on that subject.

Since I have no intention of being part of this forum again I thought I at least owe those of you who visit and support my magazine an explanation somewhat of the happenings. If Prune want to drag up the past and use it against me then let them do so. I too have copies of all the email correspondence with Compuserve in my archives but am I going to bother with them, no, as the past stays where it is, in the past.

Regards and onward and upward.

Pac Rotors
Most of what you said was very good. However, if you're truly then please don't deprive those of us who don't know you of what is obviously some very valuable input from time to time. Surely the rotary world is too small that we can't just all try and get along.
I was once employed by a company that held a grudge against anybody they perceived as not toeing their line (whether it was the case or not), and refused then (and now) to ever rehire anybody logged deep in their memory files as having been a 'bad boy'. They too, thought that people never change. IN my opinion this has deprived them of quite a number of valuable people over the years, who have thought about going back to them. But now it's telling, as they have a very dissatisfied - and shrinking - workforce, many of whom would leave if they could. So please, don't be like them as it'll only harm both yourself and PPrune in the long run. As I said in my reply this evening to your original posting, why don't you and the PPrune moderators, just forgive and forget - just both of you learn from what is obviously a rather unpleasant interval.
Keep on contributing.

Professional Pilots Rumour Network???????

I don't see much professionalism around here at the moment.

Kids Playground Rumour Network......

pac Rotors introduced me to this forum through a mass email from his site and I have enjoyed the forums. 90 percent of the time it is constructive stuff.

Sometimes Catty (Very) But i think that catty stuff is hillarious.
Can you imagine these guys going for it in a Pub???
I'd pay good money to see that fight.

Enjoy

Cool

Storm in tea cup material.
Who cares if a little advert was slipped in here or there. I certainly didn't complain and I heard no one else bitchin either. I thought this forum was for the pilots not the industry.
As regular around here I have noticed a considerable reduction in comments from the likes of Nick, IHL, PR, turbine, paco and numerous others (even Lu has been quiet...) Has anyone wondered why? I know its a sign of the times and Sept 11 has had a sobering influencene in general on the humerous aspect of our industry? But perhaps little insignificant problems like the one Neville is going through are turning pilots away from this site?
If Neville sells a few more mags or calenders - more power to him. He certainly has gone to great lenghts to provide a service to all of us that the other Shephard's funded, military/industry sales driven rags could not.

Yawn - sorry I wasted my time and effort going through the rant.....don't feel guilty guys. See a counsellor man. I for one am sick of all the Dorthy Dixer stuf. Some people need drama by the looks. Let's get into some helicopter stuff instead.

HEY Steve 76 - Can you ping us with what your Ca conversion involved?

I'm still lurking, but trying to keep away from the yar boo sucks kinda stuff. This is not the only part of pprune that is slipping, though - I find the military one worse.

cheers

helidrvr,
you're right, I was a bit quick off the mark, and yes, it is sad when this kind of thing happens. Maybe PacRotors will have a few beers and come back, let's hope so. In the meantime closing this thread and getting on with other things would probably be a good idea.
Regards,
Chopperman.

Thumbs up

vlope,
pretty busy at the moment mate, but will definately reply if you mail me at [email protected]
Depends on what you want to do, it can be pretty expensive. Expect a minimum of $3000 canadian + expences.
----good to hear Paco again!

I have been watching the developments with interest. As Neville himself has admitted, he can be a tad fiery at times. Well, this comment leads me to ask the question that has been doing the rounds on the rumour network for quite some time. Is Neville the long lost son of a certain Nelson helicopter pilot who seems to feature in Pacific Rotors issue after issue after issue after issue.................................????? Just a thought.
