Unhappy Advice for a whippersnapper

Anybody ou there who can offer some advise on the confusing world of CPL training. After some serious web trauling I am still only stratching the surface of the various FAA, JAA, CAA, CASA rules and regs. I've looked at several schools....should I go the J1 path with HAI in the States, CASA in OZ or Helipro cadetship in NZ. All have advantages (free Jetranger rating with helipro or mountain, external load, intructor and instrument with HAI?). Since I am from the UK where is best for that all important first job? Or should I change tack and look towards training as a mechanic first? Sorry to go on but researching all this material and trying to make a decision is fustrating with no-one to offer advise. I am determined to succeed...I just want to know the best place to start the ball rolling!
