And from page 3 of the SIN just case there is any confusion -

General Recommendations In order to ensure proper performance of the inspection, Airbus Helicopters would like to remind the following guidance that are already part of the FLM or training reference and are in accordance with local regulation:

Operator shall stand on two feet on the integrated footsteps
Operator shall use a flash light or head light to properly illuminate the inspection area
Operator shall use a lint-free cloth in case of any dust/ dirt to be cleaned off before inspection
Inspection shall be done on all rotating control rods by turning the rotor manually
Inspection shall be done on both (upper and lower) spherical bearings of each rotating control rod
Operator shall pay attention to any abnormal mark on the ball bearing, the liner, the rod end such as excessive wear, scratches, scores, corrosion (see Safety Promotion Notice No. 3399-P-20)
Operator shall use one hand to manually detect any abnormal operation on each spherical bearing
Any abnormal finding shall be reported immediately to the maintenance organization
Always schedule sufficient time to fully complete the task without pressure
Provide adequate training to personnel conducting pre-flight checks and ensure regular refresh of the contents e.g. using examples of damage
Reduce contributing factors to human errors such as fatigue, poor light conditions, extreme temperature or noise.
If stuff like this is missed you have to wonder about the rest of the machine? I have seen some doozy's in my travels.
Some people should just not be allowed near helicopters.

What was the old aviation adage about self preservation again?
