Question Employment situation?

Having had a few false starts, it seems I am now short finals to regaining my med cat (and renewing my ATPL(H), poss my instructor rating and meybe updating the frozen ATPL(A)). Question is, is it worth it?

In all honesty, I'd prefer helicopters to FW (yes, I know!). I have had a chat with some chums in the bizz but thought I might get a broader picture through PPrune. Are there any jobs out there in the South/South West and what are the current remuneration packages for the industry generally? Police/ambulance preferred to corporate, but some freelancing would be very welcome too. (However, nothing whatsoever to do with a Robbo).

My guess is that the freelancing side is pretty much sewn-up, especially over winter, but what about the situation in the Air Ambulance market and what is the situation with PAS? Have heard good and not-so-good things recently. I would be grateful for the latest buzzes before putting pen to paper and bashing out some carefully aimed CVs.

Finally, where is the best (value) place to get some recurrency training and what is considered the best type to put on a licence besides a Gazelle?

(PS. Mighty Gem & PurplePitot, are you out there?).

Thanks.

Cool

You've come to the right place. As far as Helo jobs go, have you looked at the international market. If you have Medium command time i.e. BH212 or SK76 then your in like Flint!

Right now the International touring market is wide open. Major Companies Like CHC aka Scotia, CHC Helikopter Services, CHC Australia, CHC Africa, CHC International are screaming for qualified crews. If you don't already have the 76/212 I would suggest you get them.

If your ex-military, you may be able to convert your Mil time to civil.

There's more out there than people realize.

Good luck and good hunting.

Cheers OffshoreIgor

Arrow

There is also a lot more out there than CHC. Being a small fish in a big pond doesn't sound all that appealing to me. But maybe it would be easier for someone less qualified to slip in to a position with a company that is hungry for people. <grin>

Thumbs up

Thanks for the info so far. I hadn't considered the overseas market to be honest, I am going to start by regaining basic currency then go out from there. It would be nice to know where the jobs are though.

Question

Dear offshoreigor,
I cannot hear CHC screaming too loudly and have not seen any vacancies advertised in the usual places. Posted CV's do not seem to work either. Any ideas?
P.S I have plenty of medium command time.
