RAH-66 Why is it called "The Duke"?

Can someone please educate me and explain why the RAH-66 is nicknamed "The Duke"?

The program management named it after John Wayne, when he died. Garth Brooks came to the naming ceremony.

(BTW - The name was for the second RAH-66 aircraft only, not the type)
