Air intakes on the AS365?

Looking at the recent pictures of the AS365 I wonder about the engines air-intakes. The ones I've seen before has a straight intake in front of the engine but on these helicopters it looks to be on the side with lots of small holes, why is this?
My own guess is either lower noise or some sort of water-protection, like snow-baffles on a 206, but please tell me the real reason.

Thanks!

There is a lot of sand, specially when it is stormy weather;
Sandfilters! The first six months, when we started without, cost 2 engines!!

spheri,

OK, we get the idea that you liked the Schreiner operations in Holland in the last couple of years, but as the title is about Schreiner from more than 25 years ago, don't you have any more of old Schreiner operations and bases outside Holland, like Chile, Indonesia, India, Nigeria and cameroon?

If you have, be my guest. I'm trying to persuad people to come forward with photos from the past, but since there were no digital cameras then and most of them are older and left the company it is a bit hard to come by. But there will be more photos, even old one's! But it takes time to make them digital!
