New 135 Air Ambulance for Strensham

Strensham's new machine passed through for fuel today, very nice and shiny. If this works there should be a photo here!

On a serious note

What is the colour scheme about. For Essex have the yellow.
Is this choice of livery, directly related to the location, to which the machine is tasked?

I guess its called personal choice and the corporate colours of Bond the lease company.

Red was the choice in the start [West Country].

The AA [and a variety of foreign motoring club sponsors in Europe] precipitated a change to yellow right across Europe.

Now that the AA sponsorship is finished in the UK its back to personal choice. Some are red but others are yellow.... with a bit of ambulance green.

Unhappy And then it arrived!

Was just reading this post yesterday afternoon (c 1530z) and lamenting the end of my 'copter flying days when the new EC landed on the school playing field across the road from me in Ross on Wye.... also attended by Bond crew and van. Didn't know whether to laugh or cry! bm

Hi Gov

They figured that it would give the fast jet jocks a smaller target.

TeeS,

Has Driver called it 'his baby' yet? As the junior 135 pilot shouldn't he just wash it??

Standard HLS's are for standard pilots.......

Joking aside, I bet the subject of conspicuity never occured to them.

You'd think that an industry that must be one of the most exposed (to danger) in this regard, probably has conspicuity as number 35 on its agenda.

Do they have TCAS?

Get your priorities right EMS before you clock up another statistic.

The colour scheme is that of county Air Ambulance, who never sold out to the AA. Red is Bonds colour of choice, The yellow and the wavy lines are counties input.

Think you'll find that the pilots at Strensham have a few hours of 135 time under their belts as RS has been there fairly regularly for a couple of years.

Good evening children!

Glad to see "My Baby" has generated a few comments. It's kind of nice to have your signature on page 1 of the tech log, trouble is page 4 had more than one engineers signature too! ah well, only teething problems we hope.

On the subject of conspicuity, Red and yellow may not have the backing of the home office, but it is very hard to miss (should that be easy to miss?). No TCAS (no budget)

TC would have a big shock if he ever ventured out into the world of charity funded aviation (I know I did) Example:- until fairly recently 2 multifit helmets shared between 18 paramedics. Things are getting a lot better, but we will never have the kind of budget the police have available to them. Compare the bases at NWP and the NWAA.

Anyway, I will be in the seat again Monday, so the people of the Midlands can rest easy.

Adios

Driver

Hi Pete, lucky bugger! Enjoy!

Let,s get this right then:

An EC135 AA operation must cost in the region of about £90,000/month or roughly One million a year.
[Probably more with BASL - joke, joke, calm down!]

TCAS: £60,000
Conspicuity paint job: £20,000
Proper helmets/kit: £10000
Total: £90,000.

Add £90,000 to a £4,000,000 helicopter over, say, a 4 year loan period (and thats being conservative): £25,000 extra/year on the lease costs: £1800/month.
Approximately 2% extra for something that might prevent damage to the tune of tens, possibly hundreds of millions of pounds in liabilities......
Mmmm excellent forward thinking on behalf of the AA management methinks.

Never mind, as long as its shiney and modern, looks good in camera:

flight safety and the duty of care to the crews is somebody else's problem

Ironic isn't it: those whose job it is to save lives - can't even save their own
