DEFENCE PAUSES FOR FINAL FAREWELL

What: The Department of Defence will hold memorial services, in conjunction with the National Memorial Service to be held at Parliament House, to commemorate the personnel who died in the Sea King helicopter accident.

Where: A service will be held in Canberra at the Department of Defence, Russell Offices in Blamey Square and other establishments around the country.

When: Friday, 15 April, 2005 - 10.50am for 11am at Department of Defence in Blamey Square .

Defence will pay its last respects this Friday to the six members of the Royal Australian Navy and the three members of the Royal Australian Air Force who lost their lives in the Sea King accident on Nias Island, Indonesia on Saturday, 2 April 2005.

In Canberra, there will be a Service of Thanksgiving to honour those killed in the crash at the Department of Defence in Blamey Square and a minutes silence at 11am for all Canberra-based Defence personnel unable to attend the Service.

The Canberra community is welcome to attend and join Defence members at Blamey Square in remembering those who lost their lives on Shark 02.

Other Defence establishments around the nation will be holding services and/or observing one minute's silence at 11am.

As a mark of respect, all flags at Defence establishments across the country will be flown at half-mast until noon.

Media are welcome to observe and record the Canberra service but are requested to respect the privacy of all personnel attending this commemoration.
