Question ______________________EH-101 MERLIN in Iraq

I heard that the British EH-101 Merlin’s just arrived in Iraq.

-How many are there?
-Why now, and not earlier?
-Are the technical problems solved?
-What about spare parts availability?
-How about the MTBMA (Mean-Time-Between-Mission-Abort)

I wonder how the Merlin performs in Iraq

Hotzenplotz,

There's a thread over in the Mil Aircrew section on this subject which might answer your questions.

At present, there's a single Mk3 support helo deployed to Basra, marking the first deployment of this troop transport variant to the region; the Navy's Merlin Mk1 deployed with the original UK force sent to support OIF under Op Telic.

Edited to say: I stand corrected - apparently there are four ships deployed to Iraq. According to Janes, they are due to remain in-theater for 12 months.

I/C

The guys in the other thread are just talking about flight suits.

Is it true that there is only 1 Merlin in Iraq?

It is flying out of Basra to the Saudi border?

Jungy

Shall i take that as a bite then?

I can always leave Bristows but you will always be a gingernut!

If you knew anything then you would have said that this is just a PR stunt to try and sell the Pink Elephant (101) to any other gullible countries out there.

Bet that chair of yours could do with some maintenance!!!
