Radio/Nav requirements in Iraq

Does anyone know what are the radio/nav requirements to operate helicopters in Iraq. The helicopters will be flying for a security company. Cheers

Might not want to count upon GPS being available.....could be turned off for civilian use in that area. The FAA had some notams out about ATC procedures there a while back. Try faa.gov and start looking there for ATC information.

Avionics

You would be well served to have a mode 4 transponder fitted. Should help with any issues with the military. GPS system is ok with only the same restrictions as all over the globe, could be turned off at any time. At present there seems to be no device that creates any man made holes in its coverage. Military UHF and FM radios may also be of some use, not all Military HLS listen out on VHF. Good luck.

Don't they just give you a bit of sandpaper as a map?
