It is now several weeks since this sad occurance. Does anyone have some firmer information on this now?

It would be good to study the actual problem and outcomes so we can learn from it, rather than just speculate and then forget, as we sometimes have a tendancy to do here.

Question Jaa & Sar

Just a quick one,
Can anyone out there tell me whether SAR in the UK is conducted under the HEMS dispensations for JAA-JAR or does it have a set of rules of its own?
Cheers........

Hi Zaplead
JAROPS 3 basically says that SAR operations are aerial work and so come outside of the scope ofJAROPS3.

Wink Cheers...

TeeS....
Thanks for responding to my post, interesting.
Does that mean that an operators exemptions from Public Transport Regulations is decided purely on their Operator's Certificate as determined by the CAA/IAA on an individual company basis & there is no provision for SAR exemptions under JAR-OPS 3?

Question SAR training

Anyone out there know how one would go about been trained as a SAR winchman without having to join the defence forces. It has been a career that i have been interested in for a long time and i just need some good advice. Any info would be greatly appreciated especially from anyone working for CHC or Bristow.

Cheers.

If you are serious, then contact the companies direct instead of asking random people on an anonymous forum.

If that is what you want to do best of luck.

That's right, and what's more Pprune will no longer accept any questions or requests for advice from anyone addressing random users on this anonymous forum!!

For the avoidance of doubt, OOPS78 expressed a personal view , not the official Rotorheads line.
I can't help with your query, but hope others will be able to do so.

Good Luck.

If you find cork in the dictionary they'll probably be talking about things you stick in wine bottles.

How about checking with CHC Australia as they run a number of S-76s on RAAF SAR operations around Australia.

They hire crewmen from time to time so it might be worth a shot.

BBC1, tonight 10:30 helicopter program?

I am led to believe there is a program tonight on Scottish helicopter crews etc. Might be worth a watch! 10:30 I think on BBC1.

After watching that, who now wants to fly out over the North sea? Not me.
Total respect for those guys flying coastguard rescue missions and to the winchmen too.

Tv Program

A well put together docco, i thought, with some good insight into Coastguard SAR flying.

Though, you would have thought they would be using Pumas with all that snow and cold weather floating about.

The question is, are any of the pilots ppruners, and would they like to comment?
