Other Jobs?
Hi everyone!
Its a question some people may not want to answer!
What other jobs or sort of jobs have people had before they were pilots - to help pay for their flying, or even whilst pilots to make ends meet?
I have heard the checkout mentioned more than once? !!!
Richard

before i lost my mind and got my licence i was a geologist working in mineral exploration in the canadian north. (i must have been crazy to begin with!). my first job after securing my CPL(H) was as a box maker (ha ha ha, but the $$ was good) in new westminster, outside of vangroovey. worked at that for almost a year before getting picked up as a 100 hr wonder/labourer.

Well, let's see if I can remember everything I've done:
Picked cotton from the time I was about 5 years old until I was through high school, but I sacked groceries now and then in the winter.
In college, I skinned and stuffed rats, then drove a truck.
Responded to Uncle Sam's beckoning finger, and became an Airborne Ranger.
Got religion and became an Army Aviator.
Departed that and got my present job, flying in the glamorous GOM. But don't tell anyone, because my mother thinks I'm a piano player in a whorehouse in New Orleans.

Like Gomer Pylot, spent a little time in the green suit... spent a little time hanging under canopy silk... spent a little trigger time in the Jungle... spent a little trigger time in the Desert... woke up and smelled the coffee... got into the medical field (desk job with opportunities for school)... worked on some biomedical research stuff after that... got into computers on same program... built dozens of laboratory-based surveillance systems accross the globe... became the information system security manager for the program... stopped wearing a green suit... put on a corporate suit... became a Director... became the Chief Technology Officer... fly for fun (wish I could do it full time).
