Well, I have the lottery ticket..........

No Leatherman - a Gerber instead.
No helmet, just a headset, homebuilt.

I do have a watch with both digital and analog display, so I don't have to do math to come up with an ETA, and can just read the numbers to write it down when I get there.

And a good flashlight, for preflighting hours before sunrise, and doing a postflight well after dark.

A helicopter pilot needs a torch, a gps, a private income, an overnight bag (with food in it as well as clothes & toothbrush) and a sturdy pair of boots

A good camera . . .

As a helicopter pilot you will be at unique places where few have been before, and you will see things few people ever see in their lifetime.

It would almost be a crime not to share some pictures.

BTW, the FedEx guys came running in the hangar yesterday afternoon with an Airbus 300 tire which they needed to get to a nearby airport in a BIG hurry, I hated myself for not having my camera with me since that was a funny picture, the whole Bell 407 rear cabin was filled by this tire! If it weren't for the litter doors it would have never fit.

...some good advice I once got from a police air wing pilot with extensive experience in searching for missing a/c..was to carry a portable ELT on your person on any flight that will take you outside a populated area.

The reasoning for it was simple. He has personally been involved in search efforts that ended in finding victims that perished literally hours prior to being rescued.

The accident a/c was each equipped with an ELT that failed to work upon impact. The victims sustained non life threatening injuries which affected their mobility in some way and resulted in death due to extended exposure to the elements.

I have since made a habit of carrying an ELT on every flight in addition to those handy nik naks such as a leatherman & torch.

Little man.

A little man with a little voice inside his head to reply to any questions he might have, like :

What's that noise ?

He did say squawk 1235,

Was that RWY 14 or 32 ?

Must get some sleep now.

Regards
