Question Mil26 Down in Cheshire....(Not what you think...)

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/m...de/3904819.stm

Typical BBC...

Nige

PS If the BBC site gets updated before you see it, the pic accompanying the story is of a Mil26...

Oh come on, be generous ... easy mistake to make. I mean, whats the first helicopter that springs to your mind when you think of "a light civilian helicopter"

Looks like the scots got the facts:
http://news.scotsman.com/latest.cfm?id=3221996

-------------------------------------------------

“Quick, I want a picture of a small 3 seater helicopter”
“Will this one do?”
“Isn't it a bit big?”
“Well, it does have over 60 seats and two toilets onboard but look, it has doors, and windows, and a funny propeller at the back too
“It'll do”

Since when does the media have to be "correct" in their reporting....mere rumour is enough nowadays!

From an Enstrom to a Mil ???? That's some journalistic licence. !! Just goes to prove one rule that I live by, "If you read it in the papers, or see it on the TV, it's "more often than not" not true.

This sort of thing really pi***s me off!

Sorry, rant over.

BTW, was it an Enstrom ?

If you hold your mouse over the (current) BBC photo you get a caption "Helicopter generic"

Maybe they need a few more...

- Helicopter small
- Helicopter over 50 seats
- Helicopter two whirly things on top
- etc ...

Well I suppose the above exchange is slightly better than a "I know what caused the accident" type thread!

Dark blue F280FX with silver stripe. Seems to have landed tail too low and tail got stuck in the ground... Fuse o/w OK and main blades OK. Photo on this page

This is the actual URL:

"http://iccheshireonline.icnetwork.co.uk/0100news/0100regionalnews/tm_objectid=14440181%26method=full%26siteid=50020%26headline =pilot%2dinjured%2das%2dhelicopter%2dcrash%2dlands%2dat%2dra ce%2dtrack-name_page.html"

For some reason the forum puts in extra codes when you try to put it in as a link. If you copy and paste the link above into your browser it should work (you might need to remove some of the spaces in the address as you see it above, the forum has inserted them randomly ), alternatively the ic CheshireOnline home page has a link to the story (for now ... it will disappear shortly when it's old news).

The picture was obviously taken as it was landing. The blades are still coning with large amounts of collective.

I find it hard to beleive the machine would rest tail down!
