Thanks Spaced.
I've changed the typo. Very early hours of the morning here - haven't got my brain in gear yet!
The Oz dollar probably will get a boost after we've visited for the Conference!

With an airfare on top of that it's either too much money to pay out of your own pocket or too much of a vacation to have your employer paying for it.
Why don't you put it closer to where more helicopter pilots are operating? Somewhere in Europe would do and if you're in a city you don't need to arrange a social event each and every day.
If you want to make it "a must not miss event" I think you should reconsider location.. or at least put the emphasis on the conference and not on the vacation package.

In fairness to Autorotate, I posted the 'vacation' pics - it's such a beautiful part of the world.
I'm sure he'll post more details of the conference as they are organised. This is very early days yet.
BTW, on the previous thread, Ned invited people to suggest topics they'd like to be in the programme.
I'm sure he'd welcome ideas from you or anyone else.

Sounds like a worthwhile initiative... I'd be hard pressed to fit in all the seminars available.
I'll be there but understand the cost and distance issues for the Northerners

Ned I don't think you needed to jump down my throat quite like that. You asked for some feedback. The company won't pay and I can't afford it, it's simple. I'll tell you what, I won't bother with your surveys in future if you don't want!
p.s. good luck with the event.

A suggestion
Autorotate - $1500 AUD sounds reasonable. What about a private owners/pilots stream? Private pilots and owners tend to want to fly to heli friendly places around the world (I know you have great wilderness to fly to in Australia). They may want to discuss about shipping their aircraft overseas, getting info on maps, procedures, legal requirements, etc. They want to swap GPS info on great landing spots and meet other private owners around the world. Kinda like adventurers meeting other adventurers and chewing the fat.
Private owners also don't get too hung up about whether it is safe to disembark an R22 whilst hovering in a mountain slope, or whether you ought to sleep another 12 seconds or you'll exceed duty times, or whether the 3rd wheel in a miniturbine if bent 4 microns to the left will affect weather patterns in Brazil, etc etc. In other words, the usual commercial type talk may not appeal to any of us. Some subjects bore me to tears at HAI.
You may get a new type of attendees, and increase the size of your conference. Just a thought.
thanks,
WB
ps Maybe that famous Australian private pilot Dick Smith can give a talk on his many trips to the North Pole, Antartica, around the world?

Warren - Thanks for the feedback. So tell me then, if you could have three seminars dedicated to the private owner/pilot then what would be the best ones to include.
Also would the private owners seminars be Australian specific or global.
Thanks for the feedback and the registration fee is slowly coming down. We have it down to $1100 AUD so far thanks to sponsorship and I envisage having it come down to $750 AUD.

My thoughts on what interests private owners
Thanks Autorotate. I feel private owners all around the world should be invited. Firstly, I'll list the things that I think interests private owners, then try to put these thoughts into 3 seminars:
Things that interests private owners:
1. People and places that they can go to in their choppers to visit. For example, great restaurants, camping sites, private resorts, fishing spots, other private owners' ranch or homes, hunting spots, landing in wild places, accomodation that are heli friendly, etc. I heard of a private pilot who flew his Jetranger from Argentina to Alaska. He could throw light on clearing customs, great places to stop at etc. Maybe there is someone who has flown from Hobart to Thursday Island in your country too who could talk about their experiences and provide tips of getting services like 100 hourlies, places to dive, etc. I know there's a private owne who has flown around bits of China and Mongolia in a Squirrel who would be interesting to talk to.
2. Shipping a helicopter say from NYC to Auckland - the pitfalls, costs, contacts when you get there. There are many ways you can ship a helicopter, of course, and owners could discuss this. Formalities needed. Insurance, etc.
3. Safety around helicopters when you fly with infants, little children and dogs or cats.
4. Auxilliary Tanks. Many private owners doing long cross country trips can't access aux tanks easily. Maybe a renting service can be provided by someone.
5. Handling corrupt custom officials - how to handle bribes, pay off police, etc especially in Mexico, parts of South America, Africa, Indonesia or Philippines or in other corrupt countries if you are crossing international boundaries.
6. Listening to talks by Ron Bower or Dick Smith or Ross Perot Jr or Jenny Murray on their epic trips.
7. Private Pilot's perspective of a helicopter, eg comfort, speed, airconditioning, autopilots, range, TV/DVD/Nintendo set-up for children, FBO's at airports that are private pilot friendly, getting emergency mechanic service if needed, cost of operations where flight hours per year are low, etc. In addition, luggage perspective (eg belly cargo pod, space extenders, skid mounted pods, etc).
8. Filing flight plans in various countries, use of HF or VHF radios, voice procedures that are different.
9. Landing techniques for beaches, snow, waterfalls, pressure height considerations, etc
This list is not complete and I invite others to contribute.
Three possible streams are:
1. 2 or 3 world adventurers speeches and Q&A
2. Long International or just cross country flights. Shipping a chopper, getting it ferry flighted, etc.
3. Safety from a private owner's perspective.
Just my thoughts to give to you Autorotate, a different perspective. Of course, commercial pilots are invited along as well so long as they are constructive on our type of flying.
Hope this helps and good luck with your conference.

Warren - Great feedback and appreciate it. For your info tried to get Ross Perot Jr to come as a guest speaker but if it wasnt for Spring Break obligations with his children he would have been there,
We are working with many others to give presentations and your feedback is very helpful.
I would like to ask some of our European members to find out what it costs to fly to Brisbane, Australia from wherever you are in Europe and also if you are near Frankfurt, Paris or London, is Qantas the cheapest or if they arent who is. Just gives me some more info so we can get the prices down as much as possible for all to attend.
Thanks.

Heliport - Thanks, appreciate it. Now using your currency converters lets put some package prices together from each region.
Registration Fee - $750 AUD
Accommodation - $1000 AUD
Airfare from Europe - 500 Pounds
What does that come to as a total in pounds and Euros.
How about some of our east and west coast members giving us some feedback on ticket prices from your major cities so we can see what we are working with.
Thanks.

Dear Members,
We have had 13 votes for NO we wont attend. Is it because of the distance, cost, no interest in it no matter what, or what would the reasoning be.
If it is some of the above we would appreciate feedback so we can address any issues. We are trying to make this a must attend event but need feedback from the industry to make it happen. Thanks again.

Reason for No
Autorotate,
The whole thing seems like it will be a great event, and i think it would be an action packed function, but the reason i posted a No, is that i physically can't afford to take 1 month off, due to my commitments already planned that far ahead.
I wish you luck with it and am jealous of the guys who can make it, i think it will be a brilliant event to attend,, with a lot of high calibre seminars, making it worth the effort.
Sorry, i couldnt be there.
