A109 Power Down near Leeds, UK

Heard through the grapevine that an A109E had a hard landing yesterday near Coney Park. The rumour I heard was that it was a tail-rotor drive failure followed by hard landing which damaged the undercarriage. Don't have any further details but would be interested to have the cause of this prang confirmed. J

I can't confirm anything but, I've been told .....

Tail-rotor driveshaft failed at about 300 feet while climbing out of Leeds/Bradford.
Pilot, apparently an experienced PPL, did a good job and put it down safely. Mike Jacobson?

Not the best time to lose a t/r.
Well done, whoever it was.

If pilot was MJ then he has been actively flying for some years, moving up from a JetRanger to a Twin Squirrel and now on his second A109 Power.

An 'informed source' tells me that what has been posted already is pretty much correct.

Apparent T/R drive failure on climb-out. The aircraft landed (and stayed) upright but it was a heavy one. Two occupants both unhurt. The heli was recovered to Coney Park on Monday, then trailered off to Sloane on Tuesday.

It is/was an A109E Elite and is likely a write off, undercarrige damage being a nice way of putting it

Rumour has it that the cause was likely a gearbox support strut bolt failure. This caused the missalignment of the T/R drive shaft which then failed.
