Been riding since long before flying. Started with a Whizzer motorbike at age 14, then a series of Honda 4 cyl bikes, including a 1970 CB 750 when they first came into the U.S. Seemed like a monster at the time, but now way down in the performance pack. Later a BMW K1200RS and R1100GS, and now a 2011 R1200GS Adventure set up for a ride across China (or not!). With all the crazies on the roads today, flying seems far safer.

I always assumed they had them because they had to be "riding" something?

John - you liucky boy! I test rode one of these while I was waiting for my S1000RR. Electric everything, including the "i-Mode" style control on the bars for navigating through the plethora of menus. Awesome bike - enjoy!

That's got the sex appeal of the R12RTP with that killer engine. Nice acquisition, indeed.

I started PPL training and 2 weeks later bought a CBX1000 (1982). In 1984 I bought a new GPZ900 (original one). One of the best all round bikes and super fast for it's time, although the handling and brakes didn't inspire confidence like todays bikes.

Not a chopper pilot - but have often mused on the link between choppers and bikes.
As a lad, often thought the Hughes 500 (favourite machine) looked like it would feel like a high performance motorbike to fly - fast, maneuverable and demanding.
Sort of like my Ducati MS2R800 Monster with Sparks pipes.
Red, loud (they might not see you, but they can sure hear you...) and if not treated with the utmost respect... lethal.
