Tasmania crash; pilot injured

Helicopter crashes near St Columba Falls

A helicopter pilot has escaped with a broken leg after his chopper crashed near St Columba Falls in Tasmania's north-east.

Ambulance officers say two single crew helicopters were operating in the Pyengana region just before 3:00pm AEDT.

The owner of the two helicopters was flying one of the aircraft and saw the other one crash into trees.

He alerted emergency services and landed near the crash site.

The injured pilot is being transported to Royal Hobart Hospital.
