Helicopter rescue off WA coast

RAAF helicopter in dramatic sea rescue
A Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) helicopter has been involved in a dramatic rescue off Western Australia's southern coast.

The chopper, which was conducting training exercises at Albany, was called in to help rescue two men whose boat began sinking in rough seas.

The men abandoned their boat and spent three hours in a lifeboat before the chopper plucked them to safety.

Albany sea rescue's Graham Pratt says the men are lucky to be alive.

"We launched our rescue fast response boat from the beach at People's Bay and plus then the chopper arrived and because the conditions were quite rough, very strong winds down our way at the moment, so the chopper was obviously needed," he said.

I would say its the CHC OZ S-76 based at RAAF Pearce as their SAR aircraft.

Either that or they have a S-61 from Nowra over that way playing wargames.

Autorotate.

It was the Standby 412 from Pearce, used for operations away from Pearce and for the wargames being played in Albany with the PC9's.
