Dont think they were designed for that, poor guy.
I am hoping mine is never actually needed to protect my delicate cranium and stays pristine for decades.
Thanks to all for posts. 027PMR - I will let you know, when I find a clear visor, if my yellow one is for sale.

Whilst those pictures serve as a gruesome reminder of how dangerous helicopters can be, I'm not sure how relevant they are to this post?
The poor chap in question wasn't wearing an Alpha Eagle
One thing's for sure... in the event of an accident, I'd rather be wearing mine than not!

Clear visor
Hi Jab,
Got one for you! pm me some details and I will send it on to you. It's brand new, I changed mine for the yellow one when I got the helmet.
Funny thing, I was doing a lift the other day and had a similar experience with the colours

I was hoping all of you out there that use helmets can give a littlebit of feedback on them , for me/us that haven't gotten one yet....
Allot of people recommend the Gallet helmets, due to weight and the size.
Some prefer Gentex helmets and some Alpha..
When it comes to weight , comfort, ANR and price... And also how much protection the shell gives ? What is the best option?
Hoping for some feedback due to the fact that I am about to buy one.
Both negative and positive feedback..
Thx..

The latest models are all much of a muchness! I think you will find the protection levels are all pretty similar, just comes down to the one you prefer and fits the best for you. I have an Alpha 200 and have no plans to replace it other than putting an ANR kit in it soon. Don't buy second hand, get a new one with a decent helmet bag and look after it.
You might find one day that you are pretty glad you choose to wear one...

There is a button called "search" on PPRuNe. Sometimes i think if some people think and "search" at first the PPRuNE would have only the half of the threads.
Found 15 different threads with more than 500 posts about this.

If a few of this hundreds of posts could fit?

Not an easy choice and you will get a hundred different answers....
The Gallet are less expensive than the Alpha. The beauty of the Gallet is that they come with alot more padding options than the Alpha so that you can tailor it to your comfort level.
I have tried the Gallet a few times and I don't find them terribly comfortable.
I will always go with the Alpha.

Sometimes I think if some people will do a little thinking and use their time other than posting stupid answers would be better than searching for mistakes in others...
I did search the forum....
Search words: Gallet helmet, helmets, helmet, alpha, gentex

Why don't you stop being so damn lazy and read back from page 1 on this thread and learn how to use the "Search" function instead of waiting to be bottle fed with the information you require!
I myself have an Alpha Eagle, top bit of kit and i would like to try someone elses helmet with the ANR kit, as i think on its own its not too bad and at least you can get the feel of the helicopters noises, without going deaf.

Motennb started a new thread. As greenthumb points out, there are several threads about helmets. I merged it with this one - which is the main 'helmets' thread.

I wear Alpha Eagle with ANR and it is superb! Well worth the money...
I looked at Gallet too but wasn't impressed. Not terribly comfortable and quite noisy compared to the others.

where to shop for a Gallet
Does anybody have a recommendation where to look for a new Gallet either in Europe or in North America?? Their website isn't much help at all if you want to locate a dealer...
Thanks guys!

I've tried the Alpha and the Gentex earlier, ended up with a Gentex which i modified my DC headset into. Not enough room for that in the Alpha, unfortunately. The Alpha did a poor job on noice protection, a lot of resonance within that hollow shell I believe. The last years I've only used a headset, but now I'm looking at trying out the Gallet, most likely with a modification on the earcups.
And here is a link to the dealer in Norway:

Rob Hamers at mertit apparel is the man to talk to about Gallet helmets, I have had excellent service from the company and also they were about $ 900 (CAD) cheaper than the Canadian dealer.. (in May 2006) http://www.meritapparel.com/

I have to recommend the Oregon Aero ear seals, hush kit and zeta liner. With all that my helmet is quieter and more comfortable (though warmer) than my DC 10-56HXL headset. Now all I need is a job where I can wear it again.
