Lucky escape for pilot of 'vintage' heli

Indiana News
Pilot slightly injured in helicopter crash
A vintage helicopter crashed while the pilot was moving it to a barn for storage, injuring the man.

Dennis Lockrey was able to drive himself to the hospital after the crash, which occurred about 10 p.m. Monday, said Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Deputy Glen Keller.

Lockrey complained of pain in his chest, back and feet, Keller said.

The helicopter, a 1968 Hughes TH-55, landed upright, but sustained heavy damage, authorities said.

"He had lifted off and ascended to about 200 feet when he heard a sound, at which time the rear rotor stopped working," Keller said.

The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the crash.
