One lesson too many.....Schweizer crash

Officials from the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating a weekend helicopter crash in Pittsfield Township.

A flight instructor and a student pilot were flying in the two-seat helicopter Sunday when it started having problems and made an emergency landing on a stretch of Oakview Drive, according to Pittsfield Township police. The street was temporarily closed while police investigated and cleared the scene.

Both occupants of the helicopter walked away from the crash unharmed.

The helicopter, a Schweizer model 300CB suffered extensive damage, police said.

There was reportedly nobody in the street at the time of the crash.

A lot of people who have trained on these and other such Helis (R22 and the like) would do well to have a picture like that blown up and mounted on their office/den or potting shed wall, it may explain to them the problems encountered when landing from outside the envelope!

But still, Helicopters can be replaced.

Looks like there wasn't much Nr left at touchdown. With the u/c collapsed completely, it is lucky they were able to walk away from it.
