Manual Speedbrakes on landing
Hi,
Are there any performance considerations for using manual speedbrakes on landing? I fly the 737 and I haven't seen anything in the official books, however I did see a that you have to increase the LDR in an 'unofficial' book. Just looking for an official reference. Nothing in my company's perf book either. IR |
You've checked your Flight Crew Operations Manual Performance Section (in our case QRH Perf. Section 12.4). There is no reference to it. There is no 'unofficial book' that applies. If it ain't there, it ain't a problem. Period.

In the 737 classic MEL which my old company uses there is/was a performance correction of the order of a couple of hundred feet for Auto Speedbrake u/s.
MEL should have all the relevant bits for fault prior to dispatch, otherwise QRH/FCOM applies, as Rainboe says. |
Yep I checked the QRH, there was nothing in it. I saw the unoffical couple of hundred feet to be added or a weight reduction, I'm looking for the official source for this info.
Our company is reactive and has the tendancy to point the finger in hindsight, which is great, as hindsight is 20/20. IR |
I come to the conclusion that Mr B does not consider an adjustment necessary. Current company QRP has none and MEL refers me to company QRH for LD corrections and this has........................................none:)

manual speedbrakes
hello gentlemen,
there is indeed a weight penalty for landing with manual speedbrakes. it is in the vol 3 flight planning & performances. for the b738 ng, it states: for a flap 30 landing :"with manual speed brakes, decrease field limit weight by 4200kg". bm:) |
Say it aint so Joe
Yup, black mail is right, it's tucked away in the Boeing Flight Planning and Perf book. 4,200 Kgs.

You guys have that on board your aircraft?
|
Que? If it's not in the QRH Non-Normal Landing Performance, then I would assume that for your company, no correction applies! How can it not be there, yet be in effect? Especially when nobody flying the aeroplane knows anything about it?
|
Well - it be like the reduction in max landing weight for Cat3 in icing conditions, aren't it - and the take-off penalty for anti-skid u/s?:)
|
No prizes for Bill Boeing
Boeing arn't gonna win any prizes for clairy in the QRH. Like I said hindsight is 20/20, and the limitation should probably be added to the QRH section, why not?

.so, back to question #8?
|
No we don't carry it on board. But that wouldn't wash in a court of law.
