What regional aircraft is best to fly and operate?
I'm doing a bit of research and I need to know which aircraft pilots prefer to fly. So pilots, if you were presented with a jet aircraft to choose from, which regional jet would you choose? Also, would you prefer a Dash 8, Saab 2000, ATR 42 or ATR 72?

Ezy question,
Regional jet: Fokker 70/100 Regional turboprop: Dash 8-400Q |
Beg your pardon but in my books the Fk70/100 do not qualify as regional (commuter) jets, whereas the Canadair CRJ, Emb-145 and Do328JET do.

Dash-8
CRJ Hands down the best out there in their classes! :) |
Well I will have to admit that I am a little partial to the Dash 8, it is definately a go all and do all airplane with outstanding reliability.
As far as the jet goes, my pick would be the CRJ. The ERJ's have proven to be underpowered, and if it's a concern to you there isn't as much head room either. |
In BRAL we're stuck with the Emb-145 and the ATP. The Emb-145 is good at going up (even when you don't want to) and the ATP is great at....going down (drops like a stone!).
Now the 146....well thats a gentlemans aeroplane (ok an old gentleman). |
E120 with leather strings hanging from the yoke, fuzzy dice from the compass and a foxtail from the rudder.
Barberpole is not a limitation, itīs a goal. |
Shorts 360. Lovely

Surely the Dornier 328 Turboprop variety must be a good un? Quick, quiet and glass cockpit.
There's only one UK operator, so probably not that many of us have been on one or flown one......nice though. But another side to the coin is: if you are looking for your first job, then any regional aircraft is just great!!!! |
Sir Fly a lot: I probably would agree that the Q400 is a good a/c - that is if it actually flies.
They operate for SAS commuter, but only occationally. They are more often out of service than in service. The record (at a time when the whole Q400 fleet wasn't grounded): 9 out of 10 a/c on the ground. Needless to say, SAS have deferred the delivery of the remaining 16 (or so) a/c untill DeHavilland/Bombardier have sorted the problems out. rgds |
