FAA Conversion
Hi,
Please could some enlightened person(s) help. I currently have 600 hours hence no ATPL, a JAA Commercial with an HS 125 Type. I would like to do some freelancing on N registered aircraft and get paid for it! Can anyone please tell me what the best way is to do this, do I need to get an FAA Commercial Licence, ie ground school, flight test, type rating etc or can I get my existing licences validated. Many thanks to anyone who can help. |
FAA CPL/IR with co-pilot type minimum.

I took a quick look, according to FAR 61.75 it appears the FAA will issue a PPL based on a foriegn license, but I dont see anything about CPLs. It does say ratings will carry over, if I read it correctly. You can check it out yourself at www.FAA.gov
Licenses are issued under the regulations of part 61, All the FARs are available under the regulation page. |
As far as I understand it, you can't work with a FAA ticket granted on the back of a foreign ticket outside of the USA. Also I forgot, he will need a FCC permit also.

Thanks Bugcrusher and FlyVMO for the advice , I think the answer is therefore commercial/instrument exams, commercial flight test and then do the type in a sim.
