Oceanic

You don't like the look of the splash guard on the cupholders?

Oceanic 14th Nov 2005 02:25

Why would there be cups anywhere near the FMC's?

-IBLB- 14th Nov 2005 10:40

can they be input devices? mouse-like things?

wobble2plank 14th Nov 2005 11:00

This looks fantastic!

So now I've only got a couple of questions:

Where do I plug my Ipod in for a couple of rockin tunes out over the pond.

Can we play Quake 4 against the other traffic in the NAT's routes?

How long will it be before a hacker pilot plasters porn over the PND???:}

Figure that as an ILS centre line goal!!! The rest I leave to your imagination :uhoh:

As the old addage goes, LHS for the pilot, RHS for the dog. The dog stops the pilot touching things and  it up and the pilot is kept busy feeding the dog.

In my opinion they're arm rests, albeit not very comfortable looking arm rests :P

Whats more worrying to me is they appear to have forgotten to put the Ctrl-Alt-Del keys on the captain's dinner table

I mean how else are they going to reboot the game when it blue screens just as the FO was about to capture the flag from the captain's team!! :}

On a related note does this mean that as a software developer I have now found myself a fast track into the cockpit of a brand new A380 :ok:

Alright alright I'll stop wasting everyone's time :D

10 points :ok:

The Falcon 7X has these as well.

cwatters 14th Nov 2005 11:16

What happens if you are both left/right handed?

Can you unplug the stick and move it over or do you bring your own?

xetroV 14th Nov 2005 12:03

What's new?

The Jeppesen Electronic Flight Bag, used in (a.o.) the Boeing 777 uses both Windows and Linux:

The EFB Class 3 architecture has two flight deck–mounted display units (DU) and two electronic units (EU) mounted in the main equipment bay. The EUs provide the display to the DUs, which show the selected applications, allow transfer of display between the two DUs (so flight crew members can view each other’s display), and control unit brightness.

The first EFB implementation will be a Class 3 system on a production 777-200ER for KLM.

An EU contains two single-board computers, each with a dedicated, atmospherically sealed disk drive and memory. One computer runs the Linux operating system (OS), which is certified through DO-178B. That computer controls the TPA display, TPA activation, and the applications on the other computer, which runs the Windows OS. The Windows applications are operationally approved. Six Ethernet ports on each EU provide communication between the EUs.

Oh the pic makes me laugh. Airbus pilots keep telling me how good the table is. Now you can't put your dinner on it!!!!

Priceless.

A-FLOOR 14th Nov 2005 12:53

They still can.
The keyboard (probably liquid proof by the look of it) has a cover that folds over the top of it and makes it flush with the rest of the tray, you know... ;)

BHMvictim 14th Nov 2005 13:44

I had a look onboard on Saturday... those lumps near the CDUs are the input devices... like a mouse. Yep, it is windows based! Shocking!!!! Anyone notice that there are only 2 T/R levers?

It's interesting to compare the A380 structures to a Boeing. so mayy plastic panels and brackets. Composite beams, etc. Lets hope they hold together!

the_hawk 14th Nov 2005 13:49

For me this still looks like 4 T/R levers...

I think I am more worried about the 14 year old kid or suicidal terrorist that will hack the flight control system in flight and crash the system, literally.

Imagine the effect of changing the error correction on location during an ETOPS portion of flight so the plane and you think you are headed towards your destination when really you are moving further and further over the pond.

I might be reaching, but I hope someone has thought of that. There is nothing secure about any computer network. If man can make it man can break it. Hollywood spent 100 Million on securing their DVDs so they could not be copied and it took that 14 year old in Denmark about a week to crack it.

:uhoh:

wingman863 14th Nov 2005 15:19

In any photos of the A380 I have seen only engines 2 and 3 are in reverse on landing. I think the VC-10 had a similar arrangement. It does look like a beautiful office. The big displays and the roominess seem lovely. Having been there BHMvictim, was it nice?

if someone made it via the cockpit to your E+E compartement, you definetely should be worried. You seem to my like my dad, who is afraid of computers and is not even using bank tellers...

hehhh, they got GPS nowadays on modern aircraft.
In this case you get the message NAV/FM GPS Position Disagree. Fly with your GPS or mixed IR Position. That is kidsstuff.

Don´t worry, the Boeing developted FLYNET system is not connected to the FM or any other component vital for flying. Different unconnected wiring !

Hope you will make it once into a modern aircraft. ;)

Not to wander of to a different subject here....butttah, ETOPS on a 4-engined 380?

The Otter's Pocket 14th Nov 2005 17:22

Quite right, however that is why there are only two thrust leavers, so you can TRANSMUTE to an ETOPS aircraft and save fuel.

Oceanic, I thought those bulbous bits are to hold your ring donut.

Do the airlines get to choose the interior colour of the cockpit? I am sure that Airbus will have been pestered by now by Linda -smegging Barker and DFS to colour code and feng shui the heavier than air flying machine and the pilot interface.

I think Lily of the Valley would look great, with a Serengeti Sunrise hue to the instruments.

Atreyu 14th Nov 2005 23:57

calming pale lavender is my bet. Soothe the worries of having to reboot Windows at FL360

"Ctrl.......and Alt.......erm........Win Key?....no.....Delete!....GOTCHA!"
