Youngest Airline Captain

hi everyone,

just curious to know who is/was the youngest airline pilot on the Boeing or Airbus fleets. Also, if possible the youngest person to fly a B744 in command.
I am sure with the wealth of knowledge ppl have on this forum, these questions might be answered.

cheers,

FT :ok:

TinyBrain 25th Jun 2005 01:17

Hii Freak,

I guess it'll depend on the airline your friend is working for... Which company is he currently flying for?

freaktrimmer 25th Jun 2005 05:34

tinybrain,

he is flying with an asian carrier, and he would require aboiut 5000 hours on type to get command.
cheers,

FT

Youngest 747 Captain

I understand that the youngest recorded B747 Captain was 22 years old. I can't recall his name, but he is with United Parcel Service, and has been since they first started flying their own aircraft. I heard this from a former UPS 757 Captain.

smo 26th Jun 2005 18:19

22? Did he supply his own plane?

cringe 26th Jun 2005 21:23

The UPS pilot was Ed Maxwell. In May 1990 he became a 747 captain at 25. There is some more info about him at the AOPA website.

zedex7rrrrrrr 28th Jun 2005 02:12

I believe Easyjet had a Captain at 23 who then became a Training Captain at the age of 27. Do I win a bonus prize for that?:D

sky747 28th Jun 2005 14:32

In the US you have to be 23 to hold an ATP so that's the youngest age someone could be in command of any sort of airliner, even small turboprops.

longlatif 25th Aug 2005 06:13

Hello TOGA DESCENT.....Command at age 22____
I guess not.....FAA does give you an ATP license until you are 23...and that is a fact ...

meatball 27th Aug 2005 13:01

give me a break

what a bunch of crap...who cares ? how about the oldest co-pilot instead ? so sick and tired of the ego issue here..flying airlines is a job not a grammy award contest. :yuk:

fdgolf 27th Aug 2005 17:14

Very easy about the most senior F/O: someone who retires at 65 as a f/o (or at 60 if not allowed to go on...). It has happend plenty of times and it will happen again.

Cheers :ok:

jumpdrive 27th Aug 2005 21:24

JW411 28th Aug 2005 19:21

I became a training captain on 4-engine aeroplanes just before my 26th birthday.

It was quite a daunting experience at the time but it has worked out very well for I was always FAIR!
