Performance A & type ratings

Two questions really...

What exactly does performance A mean in aviation job adverts? And does anyone know a easy way of finding out the cost of type ratings on different a/c?

Perf A is now known as JAR 25 or FAR 25 aircraft.
A Shorts 360 is a perf A aircraft and so is a 747 and pretty much every thing in between.

It is suposed to be able to continue the take off with an engine failure at V1 with guaranteed performance.
