Aircraft deliveries 2003

Is there really a need of 280 (Boeing) + 300 (Airbus) new aircraft this year ? What will happen if the real need is much less than the announced output ?

The a/c will be flown to a sunny airfield until such times as they are required. With second hand values and leases so low that might be some time.
