More questions for the plane drivers

My first question is mostly aimed at trans-Atlantic pilots (I'd be particularly interested to hear from a BA pilot). I have heard that there are some pilots who have a regular route and that they have what are called "homes away from home". First, is this true?

If you were doing a trip from London to Baltimore, for example, how long would you stay in Baltimore before returning to London? Would that be someone's regular route where they would fly there three times a month (or more) or am I getting bad info? Of course, I'd be happy to hear from an American pilot doing the opposite flight.

My source also tells me that he works an average of 12-15 days out of a month. He is a senior line captain for a major airline flying mostly 767s and 777s.

Also could you tell me a bit about how you get your routes? I have heard they are bid and the good trips are really down to seniority.

I appreciate any info you may have.

Cheers,

Michael
