Command Times

May I ask the length of time it takes a new F/O with an airline (ie BA) to gain his command? I have not considered it much!

Hi rich49,

don't know for BA, but with some other European major airlines it may take 12+ years given the present economical situation.

happy landings

BA pilots take anywhere between 10-15 years to get a command. I believe they can get it quicker if they join one of the 'lesser fleets.' If they work for Ryanair they can do a course at the age of 12 (ok maybe 17), spend 18 months on the course, qualify and then within about 3 years be a Captain. Painful but true!!!

Monarch is about 8 years, Britannia about 10.
