Lighting up time

Hi All,

I had an impression that landing lights should be on below 10,000. Due to extended hours spent in traffic jams on the M6 last night I had the opportunity to observe aircraft on the approaches to both Manchester and Birmingham. Some aircraft had everything on yet others only switched on the landing lights when on the way in. Just wondered why.

It depends on company SOP’s, in the company I work for we use landing lights below FL 100 at all times unless to do so would cause us a problem i.e. in CAT IIIB when they can just cause problems with reflected glare.

Cheers
