AFIS Issues
Hi everyone, I have a couple of questions and an issue I need advice on please, my daughter is in a flight school in Northern Spain, I won't name the school just yet but suffice to say that's it located in Burgos.
The course is advertised at 14 months for €79k, she is there 12 months now and has only completed 45 hours and most of the students in her batch are in the same boat except for the spanish students who seem to get a bit more preferential treatment than the other students, this is not my main gripe, my daughter was out doing a solo flight while in the pattern, afis called her to report when she was downwind, as she was about to make her call, afis got on the radio again to her repeating the same message just as my daughter was about to make her call which she then proceeded to do, shortly afterwards she then called base and then finals all the while afis was berating my daughter about making the correct calls all while my daughter was trying to land the aircraft, she has only 45 hrs and on a solo flight and was trying to concentrate on landing and at the back of her mind, was a flight that happened a couple of months previous when a young student was killed and her instructor very seriously injured.
When my daughter got back on the ground she was then told that she got a 20 day suspension because she failed to make a downwind call, her supervisor who was monitoring her radio calls and her flight on the ground stated that he clearly heard my daughter making her downwind call, but the school is adamant that she never made the call, so basically its her word against my daughter, there have been several complaints made against this afis operator within the students who all say that the operator cannot handle the pressure of the job even when in this case, there were only 6 aircraft in the pattern.
Can anyone tell me if flight schools in Spain or even anywhere else are required to record all radio transmissions between student pilots and tower/ground etc or afis services.
My daughter is being punished for something she she did but afis says she didnt and this will have a knock on effect financially to us, does my daughter have a legal leg to stand on? which brings me to my next point, how can a flight school advertise a course to be done in 14 months but in reality it will take a minimum of 20 - 24 months to complete at maybe a ¼ more of the original price, how are they allowed to get away with this.
I hope some of you very knowledgeable people can give me some advice on my daughters situation.
Thank you.
