Radar minimum altitudes and responsible for direct to clearances

Hi,

wondering about the legal nature of accepting a direct to point (say a 10nm final) whilst accepting own terrain clearance (whilst VMC). Does the radar minima chart still have to be obeyed? Is this a good idea? Or would I just go off the standard MSA off the charts whilst within within 25nm? What’s the best solution?
