Question Aviation Fiction - Question

Hey there everyone,I Have a question for allyou airline boys and gals there. I recently read 'Turbulence' by John J. Nance, and in the book he dealt with incidences of air rage.

Nance's airline in the book was a US carrier and he described new security measures implemented since 9/11, such as something he called a 'cipher lock' and cockpit video monitors.

I just wanted to know whether these measures have in fact been put in place in everyday operations. Also, are flight crew now carrying small arms????

I'm curious as to whether he is writing what airlines have now done as to security. Thanks.
