FAA & B737NG type rating
Good day fellow aviators.
Some advice would be highly appreciated.
I'm looking to convert my ICAO ATPL to an FAA ATPL and at the same time do a B737NG type rating in the USA.
I've been keen on doing the B737 rating here in SA but I've also been keen on doing the FAA, so will it be advisable to do both in the States?
I would imagine I'm looking in the region of approx 15,000$ excluding air tickets and accommodation.
Has anyone out there done something similar?
I would imagine having a B737NG rating will be good to have on ones license, especially for the companies in SA that operate the B737 range.
And the FAA would basically open door outside of SA.
Any advice, I would appreciate it.
Fly safe all!!

There's only one B-737 type rating in the FAA system, good for the -100 through the -900. So a 737 type is probably the cheapest type around, say $8000. Your problem is going to be the ATP written. About a year ago the FAA started requiring a certificate training program before you could take the written exam. Currently there are only 4 or 5 schools approved to teach the CTP. They are charging round $5000 for the week long class.
