WIGs - Wings in Ground Effect

I read a very interesting article a few years back in a UK flying magazine about the Soviet WIGs. One of them - the Caspian Sea Monster - apparently had a t/o weight of 800 tons.

Does anybody know a website about those WIGs?

Thumbs up

As above - do a 'Google' search for 'Ekranoplan' - the Hydrofoil/Hydroplane design bureau is still in Novgorod...there are smaller prototype jet Ekranoplans in the Air Force Museum at Moscow Monino and I have seen the Caspian Sea Monster parked up at Makhachakla on the Caspian Sea...the not complete real big one is still in the hangar at Ulyanovsk I believe...

The British TV Channel 4 did a fantastic documentary on the Ekranoplan program about 2 years ago with excellent footage and details...
