Type Rating Renewal

Hi all.

I am a EASA ATPL holder and I am exploring the feasibility of renewing my type rating from my previous type, which will have expired three years ago this September.

How long can I leave it until I would have to repeat the entire type rating course? Any document references would be a great help.
