Fcom trivia

Why in the A320 Fcom are there some very small boxes with L and a number in them in the left hand margin?

FCOM GEN P 5/30 FCOM USE AND ORGANIZATION

L1 L2 L3

Layer 1: "Need to know"
Layer 1 presents information that is necessary in the cockpit.

Layer 2: "Nice to know"
Layer 2 presents information that is used as a reference, in order to fully understand the logic of the aircraft and pilot interfaces.

Layer 3: Detailed information
Layer 3 provides more detailed explanations, that are not necessarily needed in flight.

Layer 1 is the default layer. No symbology when not following layer 2 or layer 3 information.
