A320-FCOM-Performance for V2500
OPD-Data Chapter in FCOMM Perfomance section for AB320 gives more than 1 conversion table for Ground distance to Airdistance under different titles like :
1.M.78
2.Long range speed abv FL270
3.Long range speed blw Fl270
4.Fixed Speeds.
Can you please answer my Following Questions ?
1.What is M.78 ? , Cruise speed ? Vmo ?
2.I assume long range speed give the max efficiency for Aircraft and
hence to fly more distance per kg of fuel , so will the cost index to be
set to higher values to achieve this long range speed and is it the same
as Cruise speed ?
3.Why long range speeds are different above and below FL270 ? What is
the Logic behind it ?
4.What is the term fixed speed ? , when is it used by the Pilot ?
1.M.78
2.Long range speed abv FL270
3.Long range speed blw Fl270
4.Fixed Speeds.

Are you like, doing your ATPL ground studies?
What exactly do you want this information for? I am only asking because one or two of your questions are a tad basic especially mno and the concept of higher than and lower than - but maybe I`m just being unnecessarily cautious? Except that all ATPL studes would have these concepts in the bag coming out of basic, for want of a better word, flight school - before they even started the course of the ATPL or indeed the type rating on the Airbus . . ?
