Thumbs down 'Screamliner' or binliner....comments from real people, perhaps?

Just wondering if PR agencies for Boeing have been doing their job in 'hiding' actual experiences and delays on the 787 recently?

I can only say from a pax experience (retired Skipper) that after about 8 'journeys' now on the 787 my views/experiences are mixed.

What on earth is that 'electrical' gearbox of some sort issue ongoing (high pitched 'squealing sound') when I walk through appox. wing section and continues all flight. All I can say is perhaps 'lucky' not to be sat in that situ. What is that all about...any engineering input, perhaps? Deffo something needs sorted there based on my several flights (8) so far on various operators...like a whining 'scream' (wing box area). It's at an amplitude that travels quite far (or maybe my hearing aid?...joke!).

Also, I've not noticed this supposed 'lower altitude' and better humidity that Boeing purports to......anyone else noticed it is better? To me...the comfy premium seats help...but not noticed health benefits. Bigger windows are 'nice' however....is it just a 'gadget' these darkening windows? It's much quicker to just close a window blind, IMHO.

OK, I've only had 8 sectors of experience on this as retired Capt....as pax....anyone enthused about this airplane from flightdeck to pax. As pax, I'm not very plussed about it. Perhaps I'm lame and, were it possible, most operators just have Biz class as premium...no First Class...so no upgrades going. Boo hoo...

All I can say is that there are very few who operate a 'proper' First Class these days (grinding my axe here...hehehe). B.A. is bloody awful...looks good in a brochure perhaps...food packet pasta and Dolmio sauce and bad crew attitude sometimes. Mrats...aka Emirates...getting tired product and very congested delays at Dubai. Oh, I'm off track now...this thread was supposed to be about the new 'dreamliner'...yawn yawn...anyone got a good word to share about screamliner/binliner? heheheh.

Not lucky enough to have flown on one yet! However, would like to know which Operators you have flown with so far? Maybe different engine types may account for the scream you mention? Please can you be more specific; in the cruise or all stages of flight etc etc.

Based on 2 x 5.5 hour sectors in LCC economy i found it quiet and comfortable and quick. Sat towards the front though. In fact the aircraft was the only good thing about flying with jetstar.

scream not from engines....as I say 'electrical' gearbox perhaps?

Thanks for the reply....as I say 'electrical' gearbox sound...not engine noise.

Same on Qatar 787 (4) sectors, (1) sector on Air India and (3) on ANA to date...mix of GE and RR engines. Engines not noticed aberrant noise.

This is a wing-box 'emanating' high pitched 'scream/squealing' sound. I'm not an engineer to know about whatever newfangled 'kit' is generating this noise. I can only comment that I've heard it midflight, however, I do notice that various pax have commented on various airline websites that they have been annoyed by this 'noise' pre-takeoff until landing.

Me just in my inquisitiveness searching for answers...not more questions...hehehe.

Cool 'Noise' issue sent to Boeing...but no reply yet...

P.S. I've sent the 'noise' issue to Boeing...no reply yet. I'm due a sector on QR next month to Doha...so perhaps I need to record the noise on my mobile and send as proof that it's not my hearing issue...heheh.

What can I say...it's deffo an issue...or with ears that can detect such high-pitch ongoing noise. (P.S. I was only joking...I don't have a hearing-aid yet). lol.
