Can anybody tell my why there are 2 separate ILS frequencies for each end of this runway corresponding to 2 separate glideslopes?

Which one can you normally expect to use and are they both radiating at the same time?

I've not come across this before.

Guesswork now but I think I heard something about EDDF experimenting with different angled approaches, could that be related to this perhaps? I think they wanted to increase the glidepath angle to reduce noise underneath the approach.

Yes, one is 3 and the other is 3.2 degrees. In CAT I conditions you'll be offered the 3.2 degree as a default, as I understand it.

And this article puts some context on what it is all about....

Protests at Germany's Largest Airport: New Runway Noise Enrages Frankfurt Residents - SPIEGEL ONLINE

From which is this quote:

One example that demonstrates the coalition's helplessness in the face of increasing protest is the proposal to increase the angle of approach for the new landing strip from 3 to 3.2 percent. This would allow the jets to approach at a slightly higher elevation, but specialists in the field believe a difference of 40 to 50 meters (130 to 165 feet) in flight elevation would hardly be noticeable to those living near the airport. At the same time, air traffic experts warn, it might well bring grief to even more residents, since increased height of the source unfortunately also increases the area affected by the noise.
