AFE vs Flight Level
A Quick doubt between AFE & Flight Level.
An airport with a field elevation of 4000' has a Transition Altitude of 8000'. You are 10,000 FT AFE when
a) The Altimeter indicates 10,000 (QNH: STD).
b) The Altimeter indicates 14,000 (QNH: STD).

AFE vs Flight Level
B the transition altitude has no relevance unless you set 1013. Thus to be 10000 aal if the elevation is 4000 above sea level you need to be 14000 with qnh set.

What a dreadfully worded question!! Why would the altimeter be on 'QNH STD' and what does that mean?I assume the question means aerodrome QNH is 'ICAO' - 1013.23/29.92? Why not say so?? Who on earth writes these?
RR - "the transition altitude has no relevance unless you set 1013 (and you will!). Thus to be 10000 aal if the elevation is 4000 above sea level you need to be 14000 with 1013 or29.92 set. NB Pedantic hat on - you should NOT be (level) on 'QNH' at 14,000ft indicated with a TA of 8!

Sorry, I realise the typo.

a) The Altimeter indicates 10,000 (Altimeter Setting: 1013).
