PA31t 1974 cheyenne II Autopilot with Garmin 530

Anyone have any experience using the early 1974 pa31t autopilot with a Garmin. I have the Garmin Manuel and that configuration is correct. Specifically looking for when to push what button on autopilot to: 1. Intercept ILS approach with Garmin in VOR mode. (ILS from ground) 2. Intercept ILS approach with Garmin active in ILS approach GPS mode, (a GPS ILS approach) 3 GPS rnav approach both Waas and loc only. I understand that this is a glorified wing leveler. But mine is not intercepting the Loc or glide path consistently in the approach modes. ie: one pilot recommends hand flying the approach till needles are stabilized in the middle then arm approach mode on Autopilot and hope it holds. This is grand, but I'd like to be able to use the autopilot to intercept, and fly the approach. Thanks.
