Baggage Tracking

My checked-in baggage has now failed to arrive on the same flight as I did on 4 of my last 6 trips. That is neither here nor there but what really amazes me in these days of security hysteria and technology is this.

Why don't they know where my bag is?
Why don't they even know if it was loaded onto the first flight?

Isn't that what the barcodes are for?

While I am on a rant, why do I have to show my passport and boarding pass when dropping off baggage? That is called checking in!

Darn, I hate flying as a passenger!!!

Friend of mine refuses to fly anywhere without a small GPS tracker in his checked in luggage

A GPS tracker might be a good idea.

But given the security hysteria for passengers, I still don't understand how they don't know where my baggage is.

I also know someone who was called down to the hotel reception to receive their baggage which had just arrived from the airport. She was stunned because she only had hand baggage but there it was, a suitcase not belonging to her with her name and address and flight number on, from an intermediate stop in her journey.

I told her I wouldn't have gone down without calling the police and airline first!!!

When one of my bags had a security seal broken, I also refused to take possession of it without the airline and security present. It states clearly on the immigration form that the penalty for drug trafficking is DEATH in Singapore.
I wasn't taking any chances especially with a G-V crew sitting in a Spanish jail right now!

Who lost your bag anyway dear sir?

Last time I flew Luftis on FRA-EWR I've arrived without my check-in bag, was given 50$ of traveller checks (or how are they called?) and assured that it will be flown in next day to EWR and FedEx'ed to my location (not NYC). It all happened exactly like that, although security control broke my lock (not TSA) and confiscated frankfurter sausages

It all comes down to ground handling eventually
