Its the Glideslope antenna and it says 'Do not handle' because its the perfect shape and location to use as a handle. Just before it snaps off.

Are you sure? What happens when the gear is locked up?

It is 100% a glide slope antenna.

A guess but prior to gear down they probably use one in the Radome, and switch to this one for more precise tracking during Automatic Landing gear down.

The 747 does something similar if I recall, 'capture antenna' under the Radome and 'Track' Antenna, again if I recall, leading edge of the undercarriage doors, not quite so visible !

Not all 747s have the capture antennas behind the radomes. The -300 and -400s I've worked on do but at least some earlier aircraft have them in the nose gear doors. I remember spending quite some time playing with a snag on a -200 several years ago.
