Jobs in Asia true facts

Hi there,
Me and my family are ready to make a move somewhere out in Asia but not sure if all of the recruitment agencies are for real and the extra benefits. Does anyone got true stories of what's going on in that part of the world? Or perhaps links where I can start searching for the real mc coy? Really appreciate it!!!

Suggest you browse through the different forums on this site. For starters, have a look at 'Terms and Endearment', 'Fragrant Harbour', 'Fragrant Harbour Wannabees' and maybe the 'South Asia and the Far East' forum.

Don't just look at the first page of those forums, but browse through the older pages as well. Plenty of information to be found there.

Also, in case you haven't heard, Asia is a big place, and all places in Asia are not the same...

Personally, I wouldn't take ANY job in India right now. At the other end of the spectrum, Japan, Singapore, and Hong Kong are civilized if expensive. Korea isn't bad. For expats, China has good & bad airlines, and good & bad places to live. Thailand, Indonesia, and other countries may fall anywhere in between.

Hermano, You are going to have to narrow it down to the places and airlines you are actually considering if you hope to get some useful information, specially how will your better half like your home base while you are out flying. Porque si la seņora no esta feliz, no hay nadie feliz

Dead true. As a Westerner you have to dig very carefully and
look at all advice and material you can get (like DBate said).

For starters a place with minimal culture shock would be SIN
but I've known guys who've even freaked out there...its very
subjective to each individual so there's no hard and fast rule
that applies to everyone - for example I'd never touch China
with a 50ft bargepole but there are friends I have there who
are happy as Larry (even though I've told 'em they must be
a couple of tinnies short of the six pack!)

There is just no such thing as THE perfect job and country in
SE Asia - so its a question of knowing your adaptability to a
new cultures and the ways the locals do things (for better or
for worse). After a few jobs in the region I found my niche in
Thailand and am quite happy here doing what I do.....it aint
perfect but its a hell of a lot better than some other places I
lived and worked in, but again that's purely based on my own
subjectivity.
