Ground Deicing/Anti-icing with engines running
Any thoughts on spraying Type I/Type IV on wing and tail of a jet with engines running (bleeds off). Particularly interested in aircraft with tail mounted engines (Corp jet or DC-9). Seem like engines would ingest a lot of fluid mist. Also seems like engine exhaust could be a major hazard to ground personnel. Appreciate any responses from those experienced in such operations....

No issue with it at all, depending on the airport. I've used both types of fluid on the CRJ at my previous airline, and both types on my current 737. Of course, engines running at both was SOP and strictly followed a checklist prior to spraying. Radio contact with ground crew or briefing before, so there were no surprises that the engines were running. Never had any problems.
The only variation we would see is if there was an airport specific procedure, some places did not allow spraying with engines running. Those places we just followed whatever procedure they required.
